Although Francis Ngannou only made his professional MMA debut in 2013, the French local has quickly become one of the most exciting prospects in the sport.
Ngannou, who had hoped to become a professional boxer, had no knowledge of mixed martial arts but became captivated by the sport when he moved from his native town of Batié, Cameroon to Paris, France in 2013.
“I saw it on TV one time,” Ngannou told Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “But I didn’t know what it was. I said what is this type of box? The takedowns, the wrestling, it’s not boxing. What is that?”
